France – Domaine CASABIANCA AOP Blanc 2014 Cuvée Centenaire du Fondateur

Domaine and vineyard
The origins of the Domaine CASABIANCA date back to 1895 when Jean-Bernardin Casabianca founded a company of wines and alcoholic beverages that progresses to cross the borders of Corsica and get into continental France after World War II. In 1956 Emmanuel, descending of Jean-Bernardin creates a farm in the town of Linguizzetta, in locations Bravone. The company covers an area of 470 ha. The company passes through alternating fortunes until 1994 when, taken in hand by one of the sons of Emmanuel, Jean-Bernardin, undergoes a major restructuring.
The domaine took its current name CASABIANCA and is dedicated to the cultivation of autochthone grape varieties. Has total of 470 hectares, 230 of which are productive today, all under the AOP Vin de Corse.
An extension so great allows having a considerable variety of soils and micro-climates which justify the production of different wine lines.
In general, the terroir is chalky-clay, lashed by the sea air and the freshness of the mountains of Corsica.

The wine
The Domaine CASABIANCA AOP Blanc 2014 Cuvée du Centenaire Fondateur is a Vermentinu in purity. This wine comes from vineyards average age 18 years, in selected land with yields around 40 hl / ha. The grapes are grown according to the principles of "raisonnée" agriculture (tending to organic but which does not reject the use of fertilizers or chemicals if conditions require). After the harvest (hand made) the grapes remain 6 months in vats before bottling.
The Vermentinu (33 ha of vineyards) is a white grape vine typical of this corner of the Mediterranean (Vermentino in Italy, Rolle in France) which gives the fresh and fragrant wines with a great ability to adapt to different soils.

Food and wine pairings
The wine holds up well pairing with fish, white meat or vegetable preparations. Try it also with the typical Corsican sheep or goat cheese or near a sorbet.

It is definitely a wine that smells of sea, but in a delightful way. A brilliant color highlighted by those silver shades. At the olfactory analysis the aromas of iodine and that little bitterness of the citrus are clearly perceptible. Same result for the tasting, as the aromas become flavours in the mouth with a good persistence. And, in addition, a very nice saltiness. A wine that I have really appreciated.
