The
history of the Domaine de Trevallon begins in 1950 when Jacqueline and
René Dürrbach fall in love with this corner of Provence and buy Mas
Chabert with its 10ha of land. In 1960 successico step, with the purchase of the adjacent property called Trevallon. The total rises to 20 hectares but still no significant trace of vineyards in these parts. The Alpilles region had no vocation for wine for years. In
1973 Eloi, son of René and Jacqueline, and his wife Floriane begin to
plant the first vines after years of titanic work to adapt the land to
the needs of the wine culture. For years of experiments, some even bankruptcy (such as Mourvedre that these parts do not arrive when ripe). The choice falls at the end of Syrah and Cabernet-Sauvignon (vine
already present in the region before the phylloxera) for 15ha dedicated
to the red and Marsanne and Roussanne for 2ha dedicated to whites. The flagship wine of the Domaine is just the red, assembly equal parts syrah and cabernet-sauvignon. A balance that becomes the trademark of Trevallon and forces him out
of your local au AOC allowing the Cabernet-Sauvignon only maximum
percentage of 20%.Another little gem is linked to the labels: change every year, and
were designed by René, a painter and sculptor friend Leger, Delaunay and
Picasso, who died in 1999.

Food and wine pairings
Ideal accompaniment to red meat dishes in mushroom sauce. Excellent drink alone.
The Domaine de Trevallon Rouge is one of those wines that have been able to cross the national and continental borders to establish itself worldwide as the reference product. We are facing a Vin de Pays (the percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon exceeds the standard AOC) which has still an important price. Just opened the wine is closed, expressionless. The color is ruby that turns translucent on the edges. In the glass he begins to open exhaling notes of red fruits and a hint of sweetness. In the mouth the attack is crisp, cassis, and then turn on red and blacks fruits and end with a final of ripe blackberries and figs. The tannins are smooth but the wine is tangy and flavorful. The persistence is good.A wine to be a nice gift for an important dinner coming from the classic Bordeaux or Burgundy.
