France – Château de Demoiselles Charme des Demoiselles Rouge 2014

Domaine and vineyard

What today is called Château des Demoiselles is a 300 hectares estate in the inner part of the Var French Department that belonged to the Grimaldi family of Monaco. In 2005 the property passed into the hands of Teillaud family, at that time already owners of Château Sainte Roseline that gave to this domaine the present name in honor of the already produced wine in the estate and to Aurelie Bertin, deus ex machina of this company.

The wine

The Charme des Demoiselles Rouge 2014 is a blend of Carignan and Syrah. The grapes come from various parcels of the domaine, on the plane and in the hills. The grapes undergo a cold maceration of several days to bring out the aromas of fruits. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature between 25 and 28° C with in stainless steel tanks and soft mixing. Drink it slightly cooler in the summer to enhance the fruity side.

Food and wine pairing

It is a light wine, good for a whole meal. Nice pairings could be appetizers with herbs de Provence for a perfect aperitif or grilled tuna.

The Charme des Demoiselles is an aperitif wine or a nice wine for any meal. Does not stand for any salient feature but fits well in an average level of products where the consumer will enjoy an honest wine at a reasonable price. The tasting of this wine remains for me a pleasant memory.
